The safety and welfare of every child is our absolute top priority. We have robust safeguarding procedures, a dedicated safeguarding team, and all staff are trained to recognise and respond to concerns.
Our Safeguarding Team
Our safeguarding team is led by experienced professionals who oversee all child protection matters across every venue. They are the first point of contact for any safeguarding concern.
How We Keep Children Safe
Safeguarding is embedded in everything we do. From recruitment to daily operations, every process is designed with child safety at its core.
Level 1 Safeguarding Training
Every member of staff who works for School's Out Activities is trained to at least Level 1 Safeguarding, ensuring they can recognise the signs of abuse, neglect, and harm, and know how to respond to disclosures.
Digital Safeguarding Referral System
We operate a robust digital safeguarding referral system that allows staff to log concerns quickly and securely. All referrals are reviewed by our Designated Safeguarding Lead in real time.
Continuous Training
Safeguarding is not a one-off. We continually update our staff training to reflect the latest procedures, government guidance, and best practices in child protection.
Enhanced DBS Checks
All staff undergo Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks and thorough reference checks before they can work with children at any of our venues.
Prevent Training
All staff complete Prevent duty training, helping them to identify and support children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation, in line with government requirements.
Paediatric First Aid
We ensure Paediatric First Aiders are present at every venue, every day. Our first aiders are trained to deal with childhood illnesses, injuries, and emergencies.
All Staff Trained to Level 1 Safeguarding
Every single member of staff who works for School's Out Activities — whether they're a camp manager, activity leader, or support staff — is trained to at least Level 1 Safeguarding. This means they can:
Working With Local Authorities
We work closely with the Local Safeguarding Children Boards and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) in every county council area where we operate. The LADO oversees allegations against people who work with children and ensures proper safeguarding procedures are followed.
Reporting a Safeguarding Concern
If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child at one of our camps, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately. In an emergency, always call 999.
