Behaviour Agreement

We believe every child deserves a safe, supportive, and enjoyable experience at camp. Our behaviour agreement ensures all children understand expectations and can thrive together.

    Our Approach to Behaviour

At School's Out Activities, we understand that as children grow and develop, they need guidance and support in learning how to regulate their behaviour. We take a positive, nurturing approach that helps children understand expectations and develop the social skills they need to enjoy camp alongside their peers.

    Daily Camp Rules

Every morning, our leaders go through the individual camp rules for each course. These rules are specifically tailored to the personalities of the children undertaking the course and their age group. By revisiting the rules every day, we ensure every child is aware of expectations, helping everyone get along as best as possible and have a fantastic time at camp.

    Encouraging Positive Behaviour

We're big believers in praise and reward! Our courses use a team points system where children work together as a team — this naturally encourages them to support each other and helps regulate behaviour in a fun, collaborative way. We don't just manage negative behaviour — we actively celebrate and reward the positives too.

    Rewarding Positive Behaviour

At School's Out Activities, we believe recognising and celebrating great behaviour is just as important as addressing challenges. We actively reward children who show kindness, teamwork, effort, and a positive attitude.

    Camper of the Day

    Daily Award

Every day, in every course, our leaders select a Camper of the Day — a child who has stood out for their great behaviour, effort, kindness, or improvement. This is announced to the group and celebrated, making the child feel valued and recognised in front of their peers. It's a brilliant way to highlight positive role models and motivate all children to be their best.

    Shining Star Award

    Sent Home to Parents

Our Shining Star Award is something extra special. When a child has gone above and beyond — whether through exceptional kindness, supporting others, or consistently brilliant behaviour — our leaders write a custom, personalised form praising and congratulating the child. This is sent home to parents and carers so the whole family can share in the celebration. It's our way of ensuring positive behaviour doesn't just get noticed at camp, but is celebrated at home too.

    Team Points System

Alongside individual recognition, our courses use a team points system where children earn points for their team through great behaviour, helping others, and working together. This naturally encourages peer support, collaboration, and positive conduct — because when one child does well, the whole team benefits!

    Working with Behaviour Incidents

On the rare occasions when behaviour doesn't meet our expectations, we follow a supportive and structured approach to help children get back on track. Here's how our team works through behaviour incidents.

    First instance

    Our Response

    Gentle Reminder

    What Happens

Our team will kindly let the child know what the behaviour expectation is and gently remind them of the camp rules, giving them every opportunity to make the right choices going forward.

    Second instance

    Our Response

    Friendly Warning

    What Happens

If the behaviour continues, the child will be given a friendly but clear warning that if it happens again, they may miss out on the fun activity taking place. Parents will be given a quick update at pick-up.

    Parent/Carer Update

Brief verbal update to parents/carers at pick-up about the behaviour observed.

    Third instance

    Our Response

Time Out with Camp Manager & Behaviour Form

    What Happens

The child will be asked to take some time out with the Camp Manager, who will chat through the behaviour expectations again and give them space to regulate and make the right decisions. A behaviour form will be completed and shared with parents.

    Parent/Carer Update

Phone call from the Camp Manager to update parents/carers on what's happened and discuss next steps together.

    Fourth instance

    Our Response

    Parent/Carer Collection & Support Plan

    What Happens

We will ask the parent or carer to come and collect their child so we can work together to remind them of behaviour expectations. This may involve a short-term break from camp or the introduction of new techniques and strategies to help support the child's reintegration back into camp life.

    Parent/Carer Update

Phone call from the Camp Manager to arrange collection and collaboratively discuss a support plan going forward.

Important: If a behaviour incident involves anything physical, racial, or that puts other children or staff at significant risk, the child will be asked to take immediate time out from the activity and we will follow the appropriate steps. If the behaviour continues, we will ask the parent or carer to collect their child and work with us on a plan to move forward.

    Working in Parent Partnership

In line with Ofsted regulations, we believe in working closely with parents and carers to ensure the best outcomes for every child.

    Open Communication

We work with parents and carers to discuss potential techniques that can be used to improve behaviour or to support additional needs. Our leaders are available at collection times to discuss your child's day and any areas of focus.

    Documented & Transparent

Any behaviour incidents, bullying allegations, or concerns are fully documented with forms that are completed and emailed to parents and carers. This ensures you're fully aware of the situation and can work with leaders at collection to discuss next steps.

    Collaborative Approach

We discuss potential strategies with families collaboratively — from techniques to manage specific behaviours to understanding and supporting individual needs. We want every child to succeed at camp.

    Signposting & Support

On rare occasions where we determine our environment may not be the most appropriate for a child at that stage of their development, we will always attempt to signpost the family to other provisions that may be more suitable. We keep communication channels open for the future should circumstances change.
